Michigan football recruiting is starting to become even more intense as commits and targets in the class of 2016 are setting official visits. Keeping up with this hectic time isn't easy, but a collection of recent updates are worth a mention.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff have assembled the No. 9 class in the country, and the group is heavily aimed on the run-focused juggernaut the first-year coach is attempting to establish in Ann Arbor.
The program's performance both between the white lines and on the recruiting trail can be described with the same phrase: not dominant, but encouraging.
Commits
Brandon Peters threw for 340 yards and six touchdowns in Avon's 56-21 win over Brownsburg. The 4-star gunslinger was named U.S. Army All-American Player of the Week for the second time this year.
The 247Sports composite rankings recently received an update, and six verbal pledges secured a place in the Top 247. Chad Carson of 247Sports included four of Michigan's 2016 commits as notable movers.
247Sports recently gave athlete Victor Viramontes a fourth star and moved him up to 222nd overall on the site-specific rankings. Per Steve Lorenz of 247Sports, Viramontes enjoyed his trip to watch the Wolverines take on Oregon State.
"My overall experience, especially at the Big House, was indescribable," Viramontes said. "I really can't wait to get there full-time and play in that stadium. It was awesome."
According to Brandon Brown of Rivals, running back KianteEnis racked up 359 all-purpose yards and four total touchdowns while also registering three tackles and snatching an interception. So, yes, Enis had a decent performance during the Golden Falcons' 40-13 victory.
Targets
Per Ryan Bartow of 247Sports, Stanford pledge David Long will "definitely" travel to Michigan for an official visit, as well as Nebraska and Notre Dame. The 4-star cornerback is ranked No. 7 at his position.
Jared Mayden visited Michigan for the Oregon State matchup, per Justin Hopkins of 247Sports. However, the 4-star cornerback said he's "solid" with his commitment to Oregon.
Lorenz notes that although 4-star receiver Donnie Corley took an unofficial visit last weekend, the trip likely didn't "upset the status quo" of Michigan State and Ohio State leading for his verbal pledge.
Five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly and 4-star defensive tackle Keyshon Camp—who is committed to USC—were on official visits for the UNLV game, per Lorenz. Both players would likely see immediate playing time if they ultimately enroll at Michigan.
Upcoming Visits
According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, 4-star running back commit Chris Evans will be in Ann Arbor when Michigan hosts BYU on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Evans, who has scored nine touchdowns and accumulated more than 700 total yards through five games, told Bleacher Report he's looking forward to seeing how Michigan football performs in person. Evans plans to return to campus in January for an official visit.
Two commits, Dytarious Johnson and Kingston Davis, will also be on unofficial visits, according to Lorenz.
Adam Friedman of Rivals broke the news Tuesday that Rashan Gary, the No. 1 overall player in the 2016 class, will also travel to Ann Arbor this weekend. The defensive tackle attends Paramus Catholic (New Jersey), which produced a player Wolverines fans might have heard of: Jabrill Peppers.
The coaching staff is competing with the likes of Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn and Clemson, but Gary recently told Rivals, "Michigan, they're going to be one of my top schools."
Lorenz writes 4-star receiver Dylan Crawford will take his official visit on the weekend Michigan State comes to town.
