Ohio State Buckeyes co-defensive coordinator Greg Schiano reportedly struck a bicyclist with his car on Thursday morning, per Jim Woods and Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch.

The accident occurred near Ohio State’s campus and football practice facilities. The 26-year-old male student was taken to the hospital after he suffered a head injury. Woods and Rabinowitz noted he was in stable condition and “expected to survive.”

The crash is still under investigation, and an Ohio State spokesman said, “We are very concerned about the young man who was injured. Our concern lies with supporting him in every way we can,” per Woods and Rabinowitz.

According to Austin Ward of ESPN.com, Schiano wasn’t injured in the crash and returned to Ohio State’s campus and the football team after the incident.

This is Schiano’s first season with the Buckeyes after he served as the head coach for Rutgers from 2001-11 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012 and 2013. His defense leads the country with nine interceptions and is a major reason Ohio State is No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25 and coming off a commanding 45-24 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Buckeyes intercepted Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield twice and returned one for a touchdown.

Ohio State is in the middle of a bye week and will next take the field in its Big Ten opener on Oct. 1 against Schiano’s former team, Rutgers.
